Hi there, my name is Cass Pickard. I have competed in powerlifting for over a decade.
For 8 of those years I have represented Australia at international events including Oceania, Commonwealth and the IPF World Championships.
In 2017 I became World Champion in under 63kg ladies and defended that World Title again in 2018. I have earned several Australian records which still stand today.
Before having our 2 children, I was a shift worker working in both Gold and coal mining, operating Dump trucks, Watercarts and Graders, for the better part of a decade.
I smoked from the age of 14 - 34 and although not that overweight, looking back I had a pretty unhealthy lifestyle.
At age 34 and finally pregnant with our first born Tyson, my weight ballooned with me weighing in at 105kg the day he was born. 14 months later our daughter Dilyn was born.
I decided at 36 yrs it was time to do something about the way I felt about myself. I decided to join the gym for the first time in my life.
Pretty soon I just focused on becoming stronger and without realizing it , the weight came down and my self confidence grew.
A year later I was introduced to powerlifting and entered my very first competition within a couple of months of actually learning how to do a deadlift and squat.
I was 37, starting a new sport with 2 kids under 3 and working casually back in the mines on shift.
I came back after winning that first competition and said to my husband,
" babe I think I'm going to be good at this sport".
I started Ironsmart with the goal to educate beginners and improve technique in the compound movements.
Regardless of age, I believe the Barbell Squat, Bench Press and Deadlift are the foundation lifts that we should base our training around.
Imagine being able to perform these lifts with enough confidence to do so on your own no matter where you choose to train.
I don't have all the answers but I'm excited to teach you what I do know and together we'll figure out the rest.
